Talking.

Talking by Khalil Jibran.

And then a scholar said "Speak of talking".

And he answered, saying:

You talk when you cease to be at peace with your thoughts.

And when you can no longer dwell in the solitude of your heart, you live in your lips and sound is a diversion and a paste mi.

And in much of your talking, thinking is half murdered.

For thoughts is a bird of space, that in a cage of words many indeed unfold its wing but can not fly.

There are those among you who seek the talkative through fear of being alone.

The silence of aloneness reveals to their eye, their naked selves and they would escape.

And there are those who talk and without knowledge or forethought reveal a truth which they themselves do not understand.

And there are those who have the truth within them, but they tell it not in words.

In the bosom of such as these the spirit dwells in the rhythmic silence.

When you meet your friend on the roadside or in the market place, let the spirit in you move your lips and direct your tongue.

For this soul will keep the truth of your heart as the taste of wine is remembered.....when the color is forgotten and the vessel is no more.

  1. A beautiful piece by thorough romantic idealist Khalil Jibran. Well, to me thinking is also a form of expression. When the seed of an idea germinate in mind ,God knows from where, a wave of hue and colors fog the mind with cluster of images and shapes dancing in ecstasy. These colorful shapes and images need an expression, our thinking is that expression. The reason that while expressing the expression of thinking by way of body or facial language, talking, writing or painting we lose its vintage owing to imperfectness of these expressions, as they cannot translate as soundly and as well the rainbow of the color spectrum as the thinking or reflection could.
Thanks thinking, for reminding KHALIL JIBRAN.

  2. hmmm...I must say Dar Sahib...you write no less than Khalil Jibran....

I have never read such nice comment or short note on thinking and its ways of expression....

I used to think that it is not good for us...that we cant read other peoples mind....whatever is going in other mind...I should have the ability to read it...may be only in that way we would be able to read the thinking of others and they dont require expressions....

But the consequences could be dangerous. Now how our politician could earn votes if we all could read the minds and know that they don't care about us...hmmm...

So how Allah made us is perfect and we require no improvements or alterations....only...we should use whatever we are given with care and love...

Thank you so much Sir, I am honored.

  3. Lovely interchange...Yes, Gibran is certainly another bridge between cultures, religions and poets/writers universal...

YES, Dar Sahib could well be a writer on the level of Gibran and in keeping with our time!
